Frequently Asked Questions

We know starting therapy can come with questions. Below are answers to common topics. If you don’t see your question here, feel free to reach out so we can talk it through.

  • We currently work with children ages around 18 months and up for speech-language or feeding concerns.

We offer orofacial myofunctional therapy for children (usually around age 5 and up) and adults.

We do not provide services related to adult cognition, aphasia, dementia, or geriatric swallowing.

  • Begin by scheduling a free phone consultation. During this call, we’ll discuss your concerns, answer questions, and determine whether an evaluation or direct services are the best next step.

  • We’ll review your child’s history, current concerns, and goals. If services are appropriate, we’ll discuss next steps and scheduling options.

  • In most cases, yes. A comprehensive evaluation helps us understand strengths, areas of need, and determine the most appropriate plan of care.

If your child has had an evaluation by a speech-language pathologist within the last 6 months, we are happy to review it to see if we can use that to initiate therapy with us instead.

Getting Started

  • Our sessions are fun, and look a lot like play! We tailor activities to your child’s goals and may include play-based learning, structured tasks, games, and caregiver coaching to support carryover at home.

  • Session length varies depending on service type and individual needs. Speech therapy sessions are approximately 30 minutes, and feeding or orofacial myofunctional therapy sessions are approximately 45 minutes.

  • Yes! Caregiver involvement is encouraged, as it supports progress and helps with carryover between sessions.

  • Every case is different, so it’s hard to give a specific answer without knowing your child. Here are some guidelines:

Session frequency is determined based on the evaluation results and individual goals. Recommendations are discussed collaboratively with the family. Most sessions occur weekly.

Your child’s rate of progress depends on a number of factors, including any underlying causes of their challenges, attendance and participation with sessions, and completion of carryover between sessions.

  • We will regularly communicate with you about your child’s progress and may send home carryover activities following their sessions. Completing the recommended carryover, along with consistently attending treatment sessions, will help your child make progress faster.

Therapy Sessions

  • Evaluations may include standardized testing, clinical observation, caregiver interview, and assessment of speech, language, oral motor, or related skills as appropriate. A detailed written report with recommendations is provided.

  • Most evaluations are completed over one extended (around 90-minute) session, depending on the child’s age and attention. Report preparation time is included separately.

  • Yes. You will receive a comprehensive written report outlining findings, impressions, and individualized recommendations.

Evaluations

  • We are an out-of-network provider, which means we are not contracted with any insurance companies. Payment is due at the time of each service. A Superbill can be provided for families seeking potential reimbursement from their insurance company.

  • Our comprehensive evaluations include written reports, and range from $285 to $385, depending on the areas being assessed.

Treatment sessions range from $70 to $85, depending on the service being provided.

  • We come to you! We currently provide all services (evaluation and treatment) in your home, or in a community location (like a library or daycare/ private school).

We travel to areas within about 30 minutes of zip code 23089. Our primary service area is New Kent County, with limited availability in Williamsburg and West Point.

If you live outside of our travel radius, teletherapy is an option.
